NUCLISWAB and NUCLISWAB NAR have been pre-pared to facilitate sample collection and transportation, Since the tubes are made of flexible plastic, when they are frozen for long-term storage, they do not crack like glass tubes. The dacron swab, which is stored dry before use, is broken to a length that will fit into the tube and after the sample is taken, the dacron part is placed into the tube and the lid is closed. The dacron swab which ismade of a special plastic for easy breaking. “Tris” in the transport medium ensures that the pH is maintained at the appropriate level. Nucleases (DNAse and RNAse) that may come from the sample digest nucleic acids and prevent their detection by molecular methods. These enzymes generally require Mg++ as a cofactor to work. EDTA largely inhibits the functioning of nucleases by binding Mg++ in the transport medium and thus protects nucleic acids. Lysing agents contained in the NUCLISWAB NAR release nucleic acids and make them ready for nucleic acid amplification tests such as PCR.
